The Part 107 Certificate Roadmap

Part 107 generally applies when a small unmanned aircraft operation is conducted for a purpose other than pure recreation. The purpose of the flight matters more than whether money changes hands.

Before building a study plan, identify the kind of operation you intend to conduct and verify the current FAA pathway that applies to it.

New remote-pilot applicants generally prepare for the Unmanned Aircraft General - Small knowledge test. The tested knowledge areas include regulations, airspace, weather, loading and performance, operations, and aeronautical decision-making.

Use current FAA source material alongside any commercial study course. A ground school should make the material understandable, but the FAA remains the authoritative source for requirements and regulations.

The FAA process involves an FAA Tracking Number and a knowledge-test appointment through the approved testing system. Account names and identification details should match the identification you will present at the testing center.

After a passing result, the certification process continues through the FAA application system and the required security vetting. Passing the knowledge test is a major step, but it is not the final administrative step.

Remote pilots must complete the FAA recurrent-training requirement on the current schedule to continue exercising Part 107 privileges. Verify the live FAA guidance whenever your recurrent date approaches.
